Cricket, comedy, podcasts, a beautiful summer setting and a very good reason for bringing everyone together.
On Monday 10 August, Zeus Sleeps was incredibly proud to sponsor The Final Word v Wisden Cricket Weekly at Wormsley Cricket Ground, an unforgettable day of cricket in support of the Lord’s Taverners.
And it was quite the line-up.
A star-studded day at Wormsley
Set against the beautiful backdrop of Wormsley Cricket Ground, two of cricket’s most-loved podcasts went head-to-head, with The Final Word, hosted by Geoff Lemon and Adam Collins, taking on Wisden Cricket Weekly, hosted by Cameron Ponsonby.
But these were no ordinary cricket teams.
The star-studded line-up brought together some brilliant names from cricket, comedy, broadcasting and podcasting, including comedians Fin Taylor, Ivo Graham and Tom Rosenthal, alongside Sky Sports presenter Matt Floyd, Gloucestershire all-rounder and Test Match Special contributor Melissa Story, Tailenders favourite Mattchin Tendulkar and presenter Kate Mason.
Even the umpires came with some serious cricketing credentials, with England legends David Gower and Mike Gatting overseeing proceedings.
And if that was not enough, Test Match Special’s Daniel Norcross led the live commentary throughout the match.
It made for a wonderfully eclectic day, with plenty of competitive spirit, plenty of laughs and, most importantly, plenty of people coming together for a fantastic cause.
More than just a cricket match
The action began at 11.30am, before everyone headed into the marquee at lunchtime for a live podcast recording featuring favourites from The Final Word and Wisden Cricket Weekly alongside special guests.
The cricket then resumed for the afternoon, giving guests a full day of entertainment at one of the country’s most picturesque cricket grounds.
For us at Zeus, sponsoring the event felt like a particularly fitting partnership.
After all, we spend quite a lot of our time talking about what happens when people are supposed to be sleeping. This time, we got to spend the day talking about snoring while watching cricket instead.
But behind all the fun was something much more important.
Watch the videos
As part of the day, we invited 18 celebrities to come and talk all things cricket, sleep and snoring. You can catch up on the full interviews on our Youtube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@zeussleeps
Supporting the Lord’s Taverners
The day was held in support of the Lord’s Taverners, with proceeds from the event helping the charity continue its work empowering young people through cricket.
The Lord’s Taverners works to create opportunities for young people with disabilities and those from disadvantaged communities, using cricket as a way to help people connect, develop skills, build confidence and reach their potential.
Through programmes including Wicketz, Super 1s and cricket in SEND schools, the charity helps make cricket more accessible and gives thousands of young people opportunities to participate in the game and their communities.
We could not be prouder to have sponsored a day that brought so many people together in support of that mission.
Thank you for an incredible day
A huge thank you to everyone at the Lord’s Taverners, The Final Word and Wisden Cricket Weekly, as well as every player, presenter, comedian, commentator, guest and spectator who made the day so special.
There was brilliant cricket. There were plenty of laughs. There may have been a few questionable shots.
And we were incredibly proud to have Zeus Sleeps at the heart of it.
